World Cup 2015 – Groups & Scheduling

Just checking on groups I find one group much stronger than the other. NZ, SL, England and Australia all are performing very well.

NZ are very dangerous side when playing at home conditions and it is confirmed that until QF they will be playing all match at home grounds. With Milne, Southe & McClenaghan bowling together they will definitely look a very dangerous side on the field. Batting is not average either, in recent times McCullum and Kane Williomson have been in superb form.

SL too are not very far behind. They are really giving NZ hard time in their own back yard in currently on going long ODI series.

England and Australia are locking horns in the triangular series with only these two sides looking to have any chance in the series. India is definitely portraying themselves as the odd one out.

In addition to that Group A also have Bangladesh who have beaten NZ at home and are very confident after their 8-0 victory over Zimbabwe. They have recently been very vocal about fans calling them minnows. But to shed that tag they would have to at least qualify for quarter finals and for that they have to beat one of the stronger sides in their group plus make sure that they do not choke against any of the remaining two minnows.

Group B on the other hand looks very weak. It is almost as if there is a tournament between the pools of the WC, Pool A would win it quite easily.

India is not performing well, WIs are not able to adjust to 50 over game, Pakistan we will know are at their weakest without Saeed Ajmal and recovering fast bowlers plus there is Zimbabwe which is weaker side than ever. May be South Africa is the only good enough side in this group.

Looking at this I think WC schedule should be announced no more than 3 months before the start it. But this would hurt the cricket crazy fans who are planning to visit the host countries.

Also I think the ranking system is not good enough if it is to determine the WC pools.

One way to resolve this could be to announce few host cities per team well before the WC.

Secondly 3 month period should be enough for spectators to buy tickets and arrange respective visas. Host countries should also facilitate the enthusiastic fans by fast tracking the visa process.
